About Lana Del Rey
Del Rey is an American singer and songwriter, born in New York City and started writing songs when she was eighteen. In 2010, she released her first album 'Lana Del Rey' under the recording contract with 5 Points Records. She released her second album 'Born to Die' in 2012 which was a great success throughout the world. Over 5 million copies of this album have so far been sold. It was rated as the fifth best selling albums of 2012. Many of the songs from her album hit the top 10 charts including 'Summertime Sadness' and 'Blue Jean'.
Her third Extended Play was released in the name of 'Paradise' which was another success, ranking number 10 on the Billboard 200. More than 67,000 copies of her album 'Paradise' were sold in the first week of its release. Her inspiration in music were Amy Winehouse, Nirvana and Bruce Springsteen among others.
Del Rey is well known for her cinematic sound and frequent cultural references in her music, particularly of the eras of 1950s and 1960 Americana. She had been performing under various stage names including Lana Rey Del Mar, May Jailer and Sparkle Jump Rope Queen. Finally she choose the name which she is using till date 'Lana Del Rey'. Out of many stage names which she had been using over a period of time, why she selected this one is simply answered by her, as 'it was beautiful'.
